Kathy's passion for photography began at a young age in New Orleans inspired by the city and its people. While attending the Louise S. McGehee School in the Garden District, she was introduced to her life's passion. Kathy received a BFA in Photographic Design & Art from the University of Georgia. After college, she began freelancing as a commercial photographer in Columbus, Georgia, but continued to show her fine art photography in various art exhibits. She then worked as a medical photographer with Hughston Sports Medicine Foundation but decided to open her own studio when her first child was born. Katharine Scrantom Studios was a premier Children & Family Portrait business in Columbus, GA and surrounding areas.
In 1993, the family moved to Sewanee, TN, The University of the South, where all three children, Katie, Maggie, & Gamble Scrantom, enjoyed the "mountain." While there Kathy photographed for the sake of art, resulting in a book called, "Sewanee: Grace Revealed," a book
of black & white photographs and Christian text. Published by The University of the South in 1998, the book sold out in 2002. However, all images are available to purchase in a variety of sizes at www.kathygamblewalkley.com.
After moving again, this time to Albuquerque, NM, Kathy began teaching photography lessons. She continued shooting in New Mexico & the surrounding states, falling in love with the brilliant colors of the huge open sky and the magnificent terrain. Teaching photography turned into another passion, education. The family moved again, this time to Collierville, TN, the Memphis area. While in Collierville, Kathy assisted her former husband in his work but then realized she needed to update her cameras and dive into the world of digital. While attending The Rockport School of Photography in Rockport, Maine, Kathy fell in love with digital, which for her, was hard after using large 4x5 inch negatives with high quality resolution! New and beautiful images emerged and photographic art continued. Sadly, life took a detour in that unplanned, painful sort of way, and Kathy had to switch gears. She tapped into her love of teaching and got an MAT, a Master of Arts in Teaching, K-6th and taught for three years in the Memphis City Schools.
In 2014, Kathy's love for Louisiana was calling, and she returned to her roots, the New Orleans area. Living in Mandeville on the "Northshore," close to water, she is in heaven returning to her passion of photography while teaching. She's shooting images around her beloved Louisiana, mostly reflections in water, as well a creating images on her travels. These images print beautifully for home and office decorating.
